Typically when we talk about a script breakdown in the context of film, it is in a very general sense. If you are a filmmaker, you likely already know that there are script breakdowns for each individual department. In the case of this article, we’re referring to a script breakdown as it relates to the intricacies of sound design.
What is Pre-Production Sound for Film?
Pre-production is the second phase in the filmmaking process and it formally begins once a project has been greenlit [or given the green light]. At this point, the production team can begin to plan for the filming, focusing on tasks like establishing a sound team and location scouting [location scouting: the process of finding places or “locations” where the film will be shot]. In other words, Pre-production is when the creative process of sound really begins.
What is Production Sound for Film?
Production sound is the term used for all audio recordings that are made during the production of a film or television program. The crew who handles this vital task is composed of the production sound mixer, their assistants, and boom operators. The production sound crew is responsible for capturing all dialogue and Foley sounds that will be used in the final product.
The Relict Project
